Method 2: Disable SuperFetch Using Services Snap-In

- First of all, press the Windows key + R key to open the Run box. Alternatively, you can also go to the Search box, type ‘Run’ on it and from the list of results, click on the corresponding app.
- After that, type “services.msc” in the search box and hit the Enter button to open it.
- Now, you need to find ‘SuperFetch’ from the list of services by scrolling down.
- Once you get it, right-click on that and choose the Stop button from the resulting menu.
- Now, you need to prevent it from starting it once again. So, while Windows boots up for the next time, you need to right-click on it and choose the “Properties” option.
- Then from the Startup Type drop-down menu, choose the “Disabled” option.
- After that, click on the Stop button and restart your Windows.
Now, you need to go back to the Task Manager and from there, you can check your disk usage. Hopefully, now it will report normal usage.
Method 3: Disable SuperFetch Using Registry Editor
Apart from those methods mentioned above, you also have the option to change some of the functions of SuperFetch through the Windows Registry. Here is how you can disable SuperFetch from the registry:
- At first, press the Windows key + R key to open the Run box. Alternatively, you can also go to the Search box, type ‘Run’ on it and from the list of results, click on the corresponding app.
- Then go to the Windows Search, type “Registry Editor” and hit the Enter button to open it.
- Once it opens, then go to the search bar. There you need to navigate through the following address- “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet / Control / Session Manager / MemoryManagement / PrefetchParameters.”
- After that, go to the right side panel and double click on the “Enable SuperFetch” key.
- Further, you need to change its value from 1 to 0 and hit the OK button.
